Peace, Love, Question!
Do I need to own a scooter to join the Lucky Scooter gang?
No, it's not a requirement that you actually own a scooter to join, but it would make the outings a bit more fun. Some of our members just meet us at whatever destination or activity we are riding to just to be social and that is great. If you want to ride but don't own a scooter, check in with us about the possibility of a loaner. One is not always available, but it never hurts to ask.
Does the Lucky Scooter Gang collect any dues or charge to be a member
The Lucky Scooter Gang does have dues paying members, but you don't have to pay dues to attend our regularly scheduled Wednesday or weekend rides. Benefits of paying dues gives allows you to attend the quarter meetings and have a voice as well as attend some of the special functions outside of the regular rides. Dues are $20 per person per year. Not a bad deal, really.
Do I have to have a liscense to operate a scooter in Colorado?
If you are riding a 50cc or less (or an electric scooter, not exceeding 4476 watts), then you only need a standard drivers license to ride. Anything above 50cc will require a motorcycle endorsement. An "M" endorsement allows you to drive two and three wheel motorcycle while a "3" endorsement allows you to only drive three wheel motorcycles.
Do I need to register or insure a 50 cc scooter?
The State of Colorado in the last few years did change the classification of 50cc and below scooters from motorized bikes to low-power scooters and are required to be registered and carry a minimum of liability insurance. The registration does not require a license plate but does require a decal to be affixed to the scooter. For scooters over 50cc, you will need to register and insure it just the same way you would a motorcycle or car. Here is info in registering a low-powered scooter with the state:

Does colorado offer any scooter safety courses?
The state does not have any classes, however, check where you live for any safety or training classes offered by companies like Abate (statewide), Motorcycle Training Academy (Colorado Springs), Motorcycle Rider Training Center (Lakewood), Full Throttle Training Academy (Denver/Northglenn). Many training companies, upon successful completion of the course, can provide you with a Motorcycle Safety Foundation card which will allow you to skip the DMV riding test when you go get your "M" or "3" endorsement on your license. Some companies will allow you to train on a scooter, but you wont get the Motorcycle Safety Foundation card. Besides, we recommend you get the full benefit of the safety course by using one of their motorcycles to learn the basics of shifting and handling a larger bike safely. You can check out this 3rd Party Tester link for a current list of providers in Colorado.
Ginger or mary ann?
Don't ask me why this is a frequently asked question, but hey, you scooter people are a weird bunch. Polling the group you will get a different answer...including one vote for Mrs. Howell (from weird to disturbing), so all we can say is that is something each person has to answer for themselves.
